“I'm, extremely disappointed for our team. They played their hearts out in this series. It seemed like they had their hearts ripped out of them. I don't know what to say, we did everything we could. Today, we missed a lot of free throws and it really cost us. I can't say enough of how proud I am of that group and the way they approached every series and this series. I guess our time has to come some other year.”
: “This loss really hurts big, but I think that we have many more years of this to come. We played a great series. We should have closed it out when we had a chance to close it out. We played the best we could, but it wasn’t enough. We had a few chances to get ahead in the game. I missed a few times, and the shots didn’t go down, but that happens some times. It was still there for us at the end to win, but we just couldn’t do it.”
“It was a great game, but we shot ourselves in the foot. Nobody is going to win a game when you are shooting 30 free throws and only make 16 of them. That’s how the ball rolls sometimes. It was a tough game because we worked so hard. We had a great season, and now we just have to think about next year. We just have to work harder for next year. It was tough because we knew we were right there.”
“I just think that we had a great year. We tried not to have it end this way, but we are a young team, and I believe that we will be back. I don’t think anyone was in control for the whole game. I think we got a six or seven point lead, but you are not in control with that lead in the NBA. We just tried to stay in it for the latter part of the game, and we did that. We just didn’t get the win.”
“Obviously, free throws were the reason we lost this game. We just shot terrible free throws. I can’t recall ever having a night like tonight, where we collectively as a team missed so many free throws. Things like that happen though. We played tough throughout the whole series. It was a tough loss. We played a great game. The Lakers won, so I have to give them the credit that they are the better team. If not, they wouldn’t be in the Finals.”
“They (Sacramento) played hard. They pushed us to the limits. They have a very good team. They have poise out there on the floor. And I think the coaching staff and players deserve a lot of credit for that. We felt we had the momentum toward the end of regulation. Shaq missed a foul shot that looked like it wanted to go in, and came back out. But we managed a tie. We came back to the bench and we were very positive about going back and winning in overtime. And I think that was very important for our mental attitude in this game.”
“We kept our composure. That’s why championship experience shows through. We had a call go against us down the stretch in the fourth quarter, and we could have easily hung our head and folded, but instead we didn’t do that and kept fighting. It feels great. Now we have a chance to defend our title. Now its just time to go after it.”
On the series:
“I would say it was very brutal, very competive. It was a well played game today. We just came out and played hard."
"We still made some mistakes. But we know what it takes to win. We didn’t make too many mistakes down the stretch. We took the high percentage shots; stepped up to the line and hit our free throws, and just played well."
On his free throws:
“Over the last couple years now, when I’ve needed to hit them, I’ve hit them. I don’t really worry about my percentage, I just try to hit them. Especially in the third and fourth quarter.”
“I’ve had a lot bottled up for the last seven games. In the sense that I’ve had to listen to a lot of comments about where the Lakers were; the fact that we’ve been out played. And at times we have been. But in this locker room we believe that we could gather ourselves and put together the kind of effort to get the win like we did tonight.”
